How to evaluate EMF information

EMF claims are meaningful only when they are tied to a specific model, test method, operating condition, instrument, measurement location, and dated report.

Questions to ask before comparing products

  • Was the exact production model tested while operating?
  • Where was the measurement taken, and at what distance?
  • Which instrument and units were used?
  • Is the complete report available, rather than only a marketing summary?

Certification documents

Safety, electromagnetic-compatibility, material-sourcing, and environmental documents have different issuers and scopes. A valid document should identify the certificate or report holder, applicable model, issuing organization, and date.
